Egypt – Digital Type Approval Portal & Restricted Simplified Scheme

Created on:2026-06-17 14:25

Egypt National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has fully implemented a unified digital official portal for all radio and telecommunications equipment type approval services since January 1, 2026, completely abolishing all traditional offline application channels. The new system covers the full-process online application, document review, technical verification and certificate issuance of the three core certification schemes: Light Scheme, Intermediate Scheme and Tight Scheme. The official authority updated the access rules of the certification scheme in March and April 2026, clearly tightening the threshold of the simplified Light Scheme. At present, the Light Scheme is only applicable to products manufactured in strictly regulated regions such as the EU, the United States, Canada and Japan. Products produced in China, India and other regions cannot apply for the simplified channel by default, unless the enterprise provides internationally recognized valid ISO system certification and product qualification documents for special review. Most overseas imported telecom and radio equipment are included in the Intermediate or Tight Scheme management, with stricter document auditing standards and comprehensive technical testing requirements. In addition, Egypt has officially banned the market access of pure 3G-only terminals since October 1, 2025. All new telecom terminal products applying for NTRA type approval must support at least 2G/4G or 5G multi-network modes to meet national network access specifications.
