India|2026 Wireless & Automotive Device Compliance Policy Summary
India’s DoT and BIS issued multiple regulatory updates in 2026 to optimize certification and compliance rules for consumer wireless equipment and intelligent automotive devices. In April 2026, DoT announced a 90-day extension for 5925–6425 MHz 6GHz Wi-Fi band compliance, postponing the final enforcement date to July 6, 2026. All Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 devices operating in this spectrum must meet strict technical specifications and obtain ETA certification. The extension provides sufficient time for manufacturers and importers to complete product testing and official WPC certification, avoiding import stagnation and product launch delays. Meanwhile, India BIS revised conformity assessment regulations, upgrading the default CRS registration validity from 2 years to 5 years for both new registrations and R-number renewals. Although the certificate lifecycle is prolonged, annual obligations including annual fee payment and production data submission remain mandatory. Non-compliance will result in certificate suspension or cancellation. In automotive radio regulation, India exempts 77–81 GHz short-range automotive millimeter-wave radar systems from spectrum licensing. Similarly, 5.9 GHz (5875–5905 MHz) C-V2X OBU on-board communication devices are also free from WPC frequency assignment licenses. Both categories of intelligent vehicle devices only need to complete ETA-SD self-declaration type approval via official online platforms to comply with Indian market regulations, significantly accelerating the entry of smart transportation devices.
