Canada｜ISED Updates Radio Equipment Standards RSS-Gen Issue 6 & RSS-310 Issue 6

Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) published RSS-Gen Issue 6 and RSS-310 Issue 6, covering radio equipment compliance, testing, labelling, stand-alone receivers and passive RFID tags, with a one-year transition period. RSS-Gen Issue 6, covering general requirements for radio apparatus, adds a list of abbreviations and updates definitions, clarifies equipment modifications, relocates stand-alone receivers to RSS-310 Section 6.1, and streamlines labelling: QR code labelling is now permitted, label placement in the user manual or packaging is allowed for very small devices, and electronic labelling requirements have been clarified. It also adds guidelines for radiated emission measurements below 30 MHz and increases the unwanted emissions measurement range to 750 GHz. RSS-310 Issue 6, covering licence-exempt Category II equipment, removes the test report section (now specified in RSS-Gen), simplifies labelling and user manual sections, adds requirements for stand-alone receivers and passive RFID tags, and replaces the full exclusion for transmitters with input power ≤ 6 nW and those operating below 9 kHz with partial exemptions from labelling, user manual and test report requirements only.
