Brazil｜ANATEL Changes the 6 GHz Wi-Fi Frequency Band Range

ANATEL has published Act No.10.400/2026 regarding the use of the 6GHz band for Wi-Fi devices in Brazil, amending Act No.14.448 and reducing the frequency range currently permitted for Wi-Fi operation. Under the new regulation, the 6425–7125MHz portion (700MHz) will no longer be available for Wi-Fi, reducing available Wi-Fi spectrum from 1200MHz to 500MHz. This change reflects ANATEL's spectrum strategy to reserve the upper 6GHz band for IMT/mobile services, including future 5G-Advanced and 6G networks, and aligns with international spectrum discussions following WRC-23. Although Act No.10.400/2026 has been published, compliance becomes mandatory from March 1, 2027. For products with existing ANATEL certificates extending beyond this date, compliance with the new frequency range will be required during periodic maintenance. Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 manufacturers must ensure their Brazilian regulatory configuration limits 6GHz operation to 5925–6425MHz and disables operation in 6425–7125MHz once the new requirements become mandatory.
